"15 years ago. Hawaii. A US Navy Captain and his son, Alex, are flying over the Islands when their airplane is hit by a storm and crash-lands. Alex survives, but his father dies. The boy is then adopted by his father's best friend, Lieutenant Hopper.
Today. Alex (Taylor Kitsch) has become a Navy soldier like his father and stepfather, who has passed away, and is best friends with his adoptive brother Stone (Alexander Skarsgaard). Alex is also engaged to Sam (Brooklyn Decker), the daughter of Admiral Shane (Liam Neeson), who is not thrilled about the relationship.
One day, in Pearl Harbor, Alex, Stone and Admiral Shane go on a series of drill exercises alongside the Japanese Navy, represented by Captain Yugi Nagata (Tadanobu Asano). Suddenly, six meteors enter Earth's atmosphere. Five crash-land on the Hawaiian seas. One crash-lands in Tokyo, destroying it and leading the Japanese to believe the Americans did it. However, the true responsables are the Regents, a race of Alien creatures that communicate by touch and has come to drain our water resources. Now, Alex, Stone, Nagata and Admiral Shane need to destroy the Regent battleships before they can repair their communications tower and call forth their armada, all while Sam, communications officer Rikes (Rihanna) and Cal (Hamish Linkater), a soldier with a bionic leg, need to prevent other governments from launching a rushed nuclear response and start World War III."
